Terms & Conditions

Plain English, no surprises

Terms of use

By visiting this website, you accept the simple set of rules below. None of them is unusual. They are written, where possible, in plain English. If anything is unclear, please write to us at editors@teso.buzz.

1. Who we are

This website is published by the editorial team of Texel Tales, a small independent journal registered in Den Helder, the Netherlands. Our editorial address is Prins Hendrikkade 14, 1782 KE Den Helder. "We", "us" and "the journal" refer to that editorial team.

2. What this website is — and isn't

This website is an editorial extension of a slow print journal. It is not a booking platform, not a travel agency, not an affiliate site, and not a guidebook. We publish essays, field notes and reader letters about the ferry crossing between Den Helder and Texel and about the Wadden Sea. We do not sell ferry tickets, holiday packages, or any other commercial product through this site.

3. Information about ferry crossings

From time to time we mention sailing times, weather and tides as part of an essay or a crossing report. These are written from memory or from the published timetables of the day, and may be out of date by the time you read them. Always check the current schedule with the ferry operator before travelling. We are not responsible for missed crossings, delays, or itinerary changes.

4. Editorial accuracy

We try very hard to get our facts right. If you find a mistake — a wrong date, a misspelled name, a Brent goose mistaken for a Pink-footed goose — please write to us and we will correct the published version and note the correction in the next issue. We do not, however, warrant that everything on this website is free of errors.

5. Copyright

All text, sketches, and photographs published on this website are © Texel Tales and its contributors, all rights reserved. You are welcome to:

You may not, without our written permission:

6. Reader contributions

If you send us a letter, a sketch, a story idea, or a photograph, you grant us a non-exclusive licence to publish it in the journal and on this website, with attribution, unless you ask to remain anonymous. You keep the copyright. If we have not published the piece within twelve months, the licence ends automatically and you are free to place the work elsewhere.

7. External links

We sometimes link to other websites — usually to bird-monitoring organisations, regional museums, or to a small bookshop in Den Burg. We have no control over the content of those external sites and we are not responsible for it.

8. Subscriptions

If you take out a postal subscription to the printed journal, the terms are set out in the subscription confirmation we send you. Under Dutch consumer law you have the right to cancel your subscription within fourteen days of starting it; after that you can cancel at any time, with a refund pro-rated to the issues you have not yet received.

9. Disclaimer of liability

This website is offered "as is", in the spirit of a community magazine. We cannot guarantee that the site will be available without interruption, free of errors, or compatible with every device. To the maximum extent permitted by Dutch law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, this site.

10. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. Substantive changes will be highlighted at the top of this page for at least thirty days.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Netherlands. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by a friendly letter will be brought before the competent court in Alkmaar.

12. Contact

Questions about these terms can be sent to editors@teso.buzz or, by post, to the editorial address above.
